Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore the private sector and SMEs development in Serbia, as
well as to identify their obstacles and opportunities. The paper includes the analysis of various
aspects of private sector development: the obstacles to the development and the role of private sector in revitalizing Serbia's economy during the last decade. The author also explains some factors
which must be taken into account when considering policies for the development of private sector in
Serbia and possible routes forward
